James O'Sullivan/ Nathan Moore: REPETITION DISGUISES
James O’Sullivan/ N.O. Moore: Electric Guitar
Recorded By Jon Clayton at OneCat Studios, Crystal Palace, London, 2023
Mixed by James O’Sullivan
Mastered by Mark Beazley

Repetition Disguises; the second document of our guitar explorations. Rhythmically cyclonic; timbrally fluent; tonally obstinate; structurally fortuitous; harmonically manifold; texturally adhesive; dynamically volatile; secretly melodic. The tracks appear in the same order in which they emerged through playing. Nathan and I played 5 long pieces, which were edited into the resultant 8 tracks. The sound world created represents us at our most open to each-others’ guitar playing so far; markedly distinct in physical approach, forged into one through a shared ear for the musical potential of electromagnetism, a joyfully undermining interplay and a will to cohere.

I hope that, beyond being an interesting sonic experience, these recordings capture some of what is exciting and life-affirming about improvisation - the heightened awareness of one’s surroundings; the blurring of the boundaries between the player, their materials and their environment; the resultant anticipation of renegotiating one’s relationship with the world from moment to moment.
